Success Planning. The Most Powerful System You'll Ever Use
April 22, 2023
The 5 Lessons I Learned from My 2020 Vision
At the beginning of 2020, right before the pandemic began, I hosted a series of workshops where participants created a vision for what they wanted their lives to look like in 5 years. They were also given planning tools to create a roadmap of how that vision would become a reality. At the time, I received amazing feedback from the workshop. But more significantly, and more than three years later, I'm hearing from past participants about their amazing accomplishments and how closely their current lives resemble the vision they created. So, I decided I just had to make the tool available for FREE. It's too powerful to keep to myself. You can find it here:Success Planning Workbook. But let me tell you about my personal experience creating a vision for myself and the lessons I learned along the way. January 2020, I had three items on my 5 year vision. By the year 2025, I said I would achieve the following:
Own my own meditation studio
Advance in my corporate career
Complete writing my 2nd book
I do NOT own my own meditation studio and I don't know if that's something that I want to achieve anymore. I think the pandemic had everyone rethinking the need for a brick and mortar place of business. I AM still incredibly passionate about meditation and actively incorporate into my coaching practice. I am just reconsidering the strategy to demystify meditation and make it accessible to people. In fact, much of my content next month ( June 2023) will focus on the amazing healing powers of meditation, including a 21-day meditation challenge. See lesson #2 on what I learned below. The most significant progress I have made has been in my writing and publishing books. I was a contributor to two compilation books:Own Your AwesomeandBe Bold. You Were Never Meant to Fit In. and I published my first solo book -The Nature of Transformation, which became a bestseller on Amazon. Having the ability to look back at the exercise from 2020 and where I am today, I have learned some important lessons that I took into the process of creating my new vision for my life in 2023.
Your vision will change. It should change. I'm not the same person I was 3 years ago. I don't think any of us are after emerging from a multi-year pandemic. My priorities and interests have changed significantly. I met people on my way to achieving my dreams that helped me open my eyes to new possibilities I couldn't have imagined possible in 2020.
Make sure the vision you create is YOUR vision. I knew at the time that I didn't want to advance my corporate career. I didn't want the increased responsibility and pressure, nor did I have the desire or interest. The vision I created in 2020 for my future would have been better served if I was completely honest with myself. I could have been braver to admit to myself that I wanted to fly in the face of convention and not take the road I was expected to travel.
Trust the universe to guide you in the direction that you're truly intended to go. Creating a vision points you in a direction and motivates you to take action. Every step along the way you learn new information. You get to choose again. And choose again. And choose differently. That is the beauty of how it works. The vision is intended to get you moving and exploring your options.
Your vision will drive your actions. Creating a vision is setting an intention for your life. When you intentionally design your life, you don't leave the outcome of your life up to chance and accidents.
Creating a vision truly gives you permission to PRIORITIZE your needs and wants. Sometimes we get caught up in the responsibilities of life and the needs of those around us. Working towards a vision does NOT mean that we stop supporting those around us, but it DOES help us make decisions that are in line with our values and desires.
I truly hope you give yourself the gift of time and attention to work through this amazing 28-page workbook. You will never regret the time spent.
